April 10/11

Dear Dr Wallace,

I have just read a booklet entitled "new thoughts on evolution" as gathered from yourself in an interview by Harold Begbie2, and I have been deeply interested.

In fact, so much interested, that I determined I would buy your new book "The World of Life", but when I saw the price (12/6) I knew that would be impossible.

And so I am writing to know whether there will be a cheaper volume published. I am a County Baptist Minister. My salary is £80 and I have a wife and two children to keep. We have no private income & so I find it difficult to purchase a new book unless it is published in cheap edition. And being away from educational centres and away from any public library a new book is greatly welcomed.

If you can persuade your publishers to issue a cheaper edition of [2] your new book, I shall be most grateful.

May our kind Father God spare you yet for some years to come and make your remaining days to shine and shine unto the perfect day.

Yours Sincerely | H Baker [signature]3

Dr Alfred Russell Wallace
