March 10th. 1889

Fred[eric]k. Macmillan Esq.

My dear Sir

I have sent off to day the last revise of my book, with the MSS. of Title, Preface, Contents &c. I presume you have decided on the photo. portrait as a frontispiece, so I have put in in[sic] the List of Illustrations. @TAB@

I should wish the book to be issued with cut edges like all Darwin’s books. Not only is it preferable for the reader but it adds, I believe, to the chance of a fair review!

I presume you will allow me [2] 25 copies of the American edition to be given to friends, & colleges where I lectured in America, as well as 25 of the English Edition.

Will you be so good as to add to the list of "Books by the Same Author" at the end, the enclosed of Bad Times with the extract from the article in "Knowledge" which may perhaps help the sale.

I will send list of persons to whom I wish copies sent in a week or so.

Yours faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

P.S. Does Mr. Sime expect a fee for reading the proofs? If so will you be so good as to give him what you think proper. He was of great use to me, & many of his corrections & suggestions were very valuable. A.R.W. [signature]

I have written to thank him. A.R.W. [signature]
