Privately the admiring the public spiritedness of every man who, in the cause of any new truth boldly expresses his most honest convictions, will you kindly inform me, at your earliest convenience, whether it would be quite agreeable to your feelings to be unanimously elected an Honorary member of the Psychological Society of Edinburgh?1

A committee of the Psychological Society of Edinburgh was formed in 1873 to report on spiritualist phenomena. The members of the society included William Crookes and Serjeant Cox. (Dallas, H.
