July 12th 1874.

Prof A.R. Wallace,

I thank you in behalf of myself, and a large number of scientific friends for your able defence of "Spiritualism" in the Fortnightly Review1. It is arresting the attention of large numbers of the Clergy, and members of the Legal Prof., and therefore men in all classes of Society. The good in both worlds thank you for the nobility of character displayed in this exhibition of a scientific love of Truth, earnest enough to brave the sneers of enemies and the deprecation of friends. I should esteem it a great honor and [2] to receive your Photograph in exchange for the enclosed.

Allow me to say that I have read your works on Science with great pleasure and profit.

Very respectfully yours | Henry S. Chase M.D2 | [signature]
