My Dear Dr Wallace

I scarcely know how to thank you for the king present of the two volumes of your "Life" and for the warm expressions of friendship which accompany the gift.

Nothing could[ ]have given me greater pleasure for it is a record of association with you in the great work of Spiritualism.

Being myself through the years a subject of these experiences I have been able to associate myself on the one hand with the Psychical Researchers or on the other side with the Theosophists.

As to the latter all they have of value seems to me to be derived directly from spiritualism — in yourself alone I found the only man who treated the subject on its scientific merits, logically and honestly — hence through the years I have treasured for you a profo^und respect and it is to me a great gratification that it ^should ripen into friendship in our mutual old age[.]

I send herewith a little matter for your inspection which we can talk about tomorrow when I see you. I do hope that we shall get at something which will be really serviceable[.]
