Royal Geographical Society,
15, Whitehall Place,
19 March 1855.
Sir,
The following Paper has been referred to you, viz.:— Letter from Mr. Alfred R Wallace giving an account of Singapore & Malacca as far as Mount Ophir &c.
I have to request that on or before the 10 April you will return the Paper, in a Sealed Packet, with a Report in writing, in which you will be pleased to state your opinion:—
1st, Whether the Paper be ORIGINAL?
2dly, Whether it should be printed in the Journal?
3dly, Whether it can be altered or abridged with advantage; and IN WHAT MANNER?
4thly, Whether any, and what Illustrations, should accompany it?
I am, Sir, | Your very obedient Servant, | NORTON SHAW, | Secretary
Sir Woodbine Parish
Please return this Letter, commencing your opinion on the back of this page.

There is no doubt that this Paper is original, but its' contents are too meagre for publication in the journal; I would suggest that it be kept back till we receive further communications from Mr Wallace — with which an extract from it may be then incorporated —
Woodbine Parish [signature]
