Dear Mr. Thompson

Thanks for the beautiful photo. of Tolstoy. I am just now overwhelmed with requests to write articles & attend meetings &c. The latter I have given up for many years. I am now recovering my strength for a Royal Institution Lecture in January, which I only accepted because I had something I [2] I[sic] much wanted to say to the general educated public as well as to the scientific world generally. I cannot risk my health by going out at night.
