Frith Hill, Godalming.

August 13th. 1885

Dear Miss Owen,

I enclose you a pair [of] seed pods of the Cytisus sesiclofolius?1[sic] that you admired in my garden, also by Parcel Post a few plants of modiola geranoides and of a Pittosporum sent me from N[ew]. Zealand. as their "most ornamental species". I send also some basal sprays of the yellow flowered shrubby Penstemon Lobbi which has been very pretty this year & which I hope you may be able to strike. This is a very small return for the fine plants you sent me but it is all I have to offer. I am sorry to say that the Desfontainea would not strike. I dare say if you were to try a few cuttings they [2] would strike with you now, & it is such a beautiful thing that it is worth increasing. I shall be away from home the next fortnight so send these few things now as the weather is favourable.

Believe me | Yours faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace[signature]

Wallace is referring to cytisus sessilofolius. His question mark indicates that he is uncertain of the correct spelling.
