Foreign Office.
September 6. 1853.
Sir,
I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon1 to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday’s date, stating that Mr Wallace will be unable to proceed on his scientific expedition to the Eastern Archipelago until November next, and I am to inform you in reply that Lord Clarendon has referred your letter to the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty. I am further to transmit to you copies of despatches from Her Majesty’s Representatives at Madrid2 [2] and the Hague by which you will perceive that the necessary facilities have been accorded by the Spanish and Netherland Governments to Mr. Wallace to enable that Gentleman to visit the Dutch and Spanish settlements in the Eastern Seas.
I am, | sir, | your most obedient, | humble servant, | H.U. Addington [signature]
