With reference to my letter of the 11th instant1 relative to the request of the Royal Geographical Society for a passage to Australia for Mr Wallace who is about to proceed on a scientific expedition to the Eastern Archipelago, I am directed by the Earl of Clarendon2 to inform you that Her Majesty’s Sloop "Frolic" will sail for Australia from Portsmouth in a few days, and I am to request that you will inform Lord Clarendon whether Mr Wallace wishes to avail himself of this opportunity.
