Tyndale,

Teignmouth.

May 17th 1917

Dear Sir

Thank you for your letter, but may I be pardoned if I say that your statement appears too sweeping:- "His opinions upon Vaccination, Vivisection & such like matters were utterly (!) opposed to the whole body (!) of Scientific thought". Medical opinions (!) are so unsatisfactory, on almost every matter, that we may pretty well think what we like. Every re-issue of the Pharmacopeia2 discards some exploded remedy (?). Quite a respectable body of Scientific thought "reject utterly & on scientific grounds Vaccination & Vivisection["]. What a Volte face the medical Profession is making in regard to alcohol. Apart from this, is a journal devoted to "Geography"3, the place for a biased reference to Dr. Wallace's opinions on Vivisection etc.?

Yours, with esteem | S. John Thorpe. [signature]
