18th April, 1916.

Dear Sir,1

I thank you for your memorandum covering a photograph of the Wallace Memorial2 and an account of the expenditure of the funds subscribed, which were laid before my Council at their meeting yesterday.

I venture to think that the Committee are to be congratulated on the result of their labours.

Believe me | yours very faithfully | [Arthur Robert Hinks]2| Secretary.

The Hon. Secretary

Alfred Russel Wallace Memorial Fund2

Marchant, James (1857-1956). British eugenicist, social reformer and author. Biographer of ARW.
The Wallace Memorial Fund (also known as the Memorial Committee) was formed shortly after Wallace's death with the purpose of raising money to pay for a medallion featuring ARW for Westminster Abbey, and a portrait and statue for The Natural History Museum, London. The fund raised sufficient money only for the medallion and the portrait was presented to the Museum free of charge by the artist J. W. Beaufort.
