Dear Sir,

I have your letter of the 6^th May with reference to the proposed Letters and Reminiscences of your late father.

I shall do the best I can to answer your enquiries.

I have written to two authorities, one on the Amazon Valley and the other on the Eastern Archipelago, and asked them what their views are with reference to the position which your father’s work still holds in these places. They may reply direct to yourself.

With regard to your very kind offer of the original tracing of the Rio Negro³ map we should be very pleased to have it for our museum where we have many similar relics of distinguished explorers.

I am having our correspondence looked up to see whether there are any letters from your father which would be of interest in the proposed work.
