Dear Sir,

I am very much obliged to you for the statement of facts regarding the recent exploration in the Rio Negro region &c. which your librarian has drawn up and for your remarks on my father's work. It is very interesting to me and will I hope be embodied in our book.

I shall be glad to hear from Dr. H.O.Forbes² with regard to the Malay Archipelago.

I am sending the tracing of the Map of the Rio Negro of which I wrote in my first letter. On examining it closely my sister and I have come to the conclusion that the lettering was done by my father's sister (Mrs. Sims.³) but I think the tracing of the River &c[.] was done by my father. It is possible, ^however, that the tracing was made by my aunt for my father from his original drawing which, perhaps, you have.
