J.S. Gamble Esq. F.R.S.

Dear Sir

I return the paper by M. Bois,2 which does not give much information.

Prof. Yapp3 of Aberystwith [sic] has sent me some photos. of the Malayan Forest, which I should like to print if I could get the names of the more conspicuous of the plants represented. I have written to him, to ask for these [2] but having had no reply for ten days am afraid he may be away from home. For the same reason I do not send them to you, but if you are at home & think you could name some of them (genus or nat[ural]. order only would do) — I will send them for your inspection.

I have just obtained a copy of Beccari's4 book on Borneo, & find that he afterwards spent ten years in New Guinea, [3] the Moluccas, Celebes, & Java. Do you know if he has published any general account of the botany of these countries — and if there is any summary of it in English or French?

Celebes I should particularly like to have some statistics of what is known.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace. [signature]
