Dear Mr. Gamble

Dr. Koorders2 has kindly sent me a copy of his big book on the Flora of N. E. Celebes.3 I find that the island agrees with the Philippines in possessing Oaks (Quercus Sp[ecies].) and Dipterocarps. [sic]4

Do you know if either of these have been recorded anywhere further East? If not, it shows that my Oriental and Australian Regions, — do [2] apply to plants as well as to animals — as showing very ancient land connections or isolation —

As my book5 is now in the press — (first proofs) I shall be greatly obliged if you can answer this question as soon as you can.
