My dear Huxley
Of course I will give the utmost attention & favorable consideration to anything from anybody whom you may recommend to me — for I know quite well that your recommendations are not the personal[?] things which so many people permit themselves to write — Dr. Wallace has not as yet made any sign to me — so far as I can recollect — but so far as good will goes on my part he shall not make it in vain — if he ever does make one — How about the dog?
Yours ever | James Knowles [signature]
