Nov[ember] 26/[18]80

Dear H[uxley].

I have written to Darwin, telling him that I will take any part in the Wallace matter that he & you think fit.

The my two grave objections that I felt when Darwin wrote to me about him some months ago, was the bet which he certainly has the credit (fact is I am glad to hear from you) of pocketing[?], & [2] Spiritualism. I agree with you that this does not diminish his claim; but, (as I have told D[arwi]n) I am inclined to think that the Minister should be privately informed of the fact that [he] is Wallace has been a public advocate of the heresy[?].

We should of course give it as our opinion that it [two words illegible] invalidates the claim.

S[incerel]y y[ou]rs | J. D. Hooker. [signature]
