My dear Sir Joseph Hooker1

I thank you very much for the beautiful and interesting plants you have been so good as to send me. They form a valuable addition to my garden & will be a source of much pleasure to me. I will return the hamper in a day or two.

I suggested the Linn[ean] Soc[iety] to Spruce2 but he says he is not a fellow of the Society— & I rather think he is afraid of being in some way hampered or restricted if his work was issued in their Proceedings [2] or Transactions. I am not however authorized to make any application on his behalf, & I dare say he will let me know should he wish any such applications to be made.

I am exceedingly pleased to see that Kilimanjaro is likely to be botanically explored.

Believe me | Yours very faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
