The Director of the Royal Bot[anic] Gardens Kew

Dear Sir

I have received this morning from Queensland some good roots of the fine Nymphaea gigantea1, and as it is stated to be very difficult to transplant even in Australia I send you a few in case you have not got it. Should you not require them will [2] you be so good as to pass them on to any amateur who is growing sub-tropical water-lilies.

Nymphaea scutata[?] from Port Elizabeth has been flowering well with me in a slightly warmed tank out of doors.

Yours truly | Alfred R Wallace [signature]

Nymphaea gigantea is commonly known as the Giant Waterlily.
