The Dell. Grays, Essex.

August 2nd. 1871

Dear Dr. Hooker

Can you oblige me by telling me if it has been observed, that the flowering plants of New Zealand are on the average as deficient in sweet-scented [odours], as they are in conspicuously coloured flowers?

Excuse me for troubling you but I know no one else likely to be able to answer the question.

Yours very Sincerely | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
