Parkstone, Dec[embe]r. 18th. 1896.1

Dear Mr. Ridley2

I send a card at once to acknowledge receipt this morning of the box with Cirr[hopetalum]. medusae3 but, alas! all quite dead. I see they were posted Nov[ember]. 10th. so they have been4 shut up nearly 6 weeks, & also had the misfortune of arriving during a hard frost which no doubt finished them. They were very fine plants, but evidently Sing[apore]. orchids must only reach here during the summer to be safe. Thanking you for your kindness & trouble all the same.

Yours truly | A. R. Wallace [signature]
