My dear Mr. Ridley1,2

Many thanks for the orchids you have been so good to send me again, which arrived a few days back in very fair condition. The small species from the Islands looked quite fresh, but the Bolbophyllum macrancthium[?] had lost all its leaves but one. With that, however, & 2 sound though much shrivelled psuedobulbs I hope to get it to grow. The Cirrhopetalum Medusae is looking fairly well & making some new shoots. Coelogyne Cumingi [sic] or C[oelogyne]. speciosa would be very acceptable when you have any to spare. Hope to hear of some Cave discoveries soon.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace[signature].

Henry Nicholas Ridley (1855-1956). English botanist and geologist.
In the opposite margin to Wallace’s salutation, the number 55 has been stamped as a reference or catalogue number.
