Broadstone, Wimbourne

Nov[embe]r 20th 1906

Sir Joseph Hooker F.R.S &c.

My dear Sir Joseph,

Many thanks for your letter. The "Publication" Grant is referred to at p.90 of the Year Book.— It is administered by the Pres[iden]t & Council, not by a special "Gov[ernmen]t Grant Board." It seems more suitable, as this can hardly be called a "scientific investigation"— However, that, I presume is for the secretaries to decide.

I enclose herewith a letter1 [2] of application for a Grant. If you think it sufficient perhaps you will kindly add your endorsement of the application, and then send it on to Sir C Markham who I am sure will do the same.

If you think any alteration in the "application" is necessary please advise and I will write another.
