Dear Sir William2
You kindly read the letters I [two words illeg.] in the Wallace B/c when I sent them to you last year. I am sorry to trouble you again but I am uncertain (and so is Prof. Poulton3 who has seen the proofs) about several words & I am therefore sending you the proofs. I should be much obliged if you w[ou]ld make any necessary correction (avoiding the costs of printer as far as possible!) & returning them by earliest post. I am rather rushed in order to secure the American copyright for the family. I need not trouble you ab[ou]t other letters again. Poulton has read them too.
Best thanks | yours faithfully | J. Marchant4 [signature]
I attach preface which you may like to see.
Prof Poulton has read these & likes them. May I call your attention to the stricture on Bateson5p.91. There is no harm in it but I sh[ou]ld like you to read it again.6
