Dear Sir,

I now return, with many thanks, the letters you kindly sent me.

I found them very interesting reading and I quite see that discretion must be used as to publishing some of them, though in some ways the more confidential ones [2] 2. are the most interesting.

I have copied them in triplicate and it is intended to send one copy of each letter, with the passages we wish to publish marked, to the recipient or present possessor, so that nothing may be made public which will give pain or cause trouble to any one. I shall be much obliged if you will post the enclosed card when you receive the [3] 3. letters safely,
