I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of yesterday’s date informing me of my election to the Fellowship of the Linnean Society.3 I hope to be able to attend the next meeting in order to be admitted.

I take this opportunity of expressing my sense of the honour the Council have conferred upon me by my unsolicited election, and of thanking them for the resolution subsequently passed [2] in my favour.
