Letter (WCP3955.3895)

Broadstone, Wimborne.

Oct[obe]r 19th. 1904

Dear Mr. Cockerell1

I had all the information about the Laleham tombstone2before. My father was born June 20th. 1771 — and his mother died 6 months afterwards. His father married again another Elizabeth. I should like you to read the Wills of these two Eliz[abeth]. Wallace's, but I hardly think the first would have left one. The above date of birth of my father & of the preceeding [sic] W.G.W. are in an old prayer book of my grandfathers [2] (printed in 1723) — so there is no doubt about his being the same who married again, & died in 1783 when my father was 12 years old. His Will is dated March 1783 only 2 months before his death, — & he speaks there of his "loving wife Elizabeth" and his son "Thomas Vere Wallace" so that the proof of second marriage is complete.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

I return the vicar's letter in case you have not a copy. as I have the facts.
