Mr Butler begs to transmit the enclosed P. O. order for £4.19.6 to Mr Wallace and the amount of it with the cost of the order (6d) makes up the sum due by the Trustees to Mr. Wallace—

An annotation is written in ARW's hand at the top of page 1. "A bill of £5. due two years ago is paid in this manner, a receipt having been obtained in advance for £5, which amount I expected to receive by cheque. Alfred R Wallace [signature]."
