T. Fisher Unwin Esq.1

Dear Sir

Yours of Nov. 14th. about publishing any future book of mine leads me to think that you have an erroneous impression — due to the fact that my last two books have not been published by MacMillan & Co.2 That I have some reason to be dissatisfied with that firm — my publishers for 36 years.

But that is not so. My "Man's Place"3, originated from an [2] article written for the "Fortnightly Review" (and an American Review) — & the book arose out of that article partly at Chapman & Hall's4 Suggestion: They further suggested an Autobiography and signed a liberal Agreement before if was written. Had these two books originated in any other way they would have been first offered to Macmillan, as will be any other books I may [3] (possibly) write.

Believe me | Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
