My dear Meldola1

Allow me to send you my sincere congratulations (when you receive this) on your entrance this day into the holy state of matrimony and my hope that you may long enjoy all the happiness it can bring you.

We sent off this morning a small box of roses from our garden to Miss Ella Davis They are not near so good [2] as those we had a fortnight ago, owing to the past heat and drought having withered them up, but I hope she will take the will for the deed & excuse their shortcomings.

I am busy preparing my lectures.

So you have not been able to come with your intended we sh<ould>2 hope to see you with your wife on your return to London.

Your sincere friend | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
