Dear Newton

A rare, & rather handsome pigeon is Phlegaenas [sic] tristigmata. Bp2. & it is not yet figured. If this will do let me know who I shall send it to.

It is described in Bp. Consp. II. p. 88.4, 5

Very truly yours | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

The back of page [[2]] is annotated in ink in an unknown but apparently contemporary hand "A.R. Wallace, London. Aug. 10-11/65 | Answered Aug. 14/65".
The plate, showing a pair of Phlegoenas tristigmata, was included in Wallace, A.R. 1865. On the Pigeons of the Malay Archipelago. The Ibis. A Quarterly Journal of Ornithology, Series 2, 1(4): [pp. 365-400; plate IX, p. 393].
