Frith Hill, Godalming
Oct[ober] 28th 1885
Dear Mr. Spencer
Many thanks for the copy of your "Ecclesiastical Institutions" which you have been so kind as to send me. I cannot say that the subject has much attraction for me except as forming a necessary portion of your great work and for the sake of the interesting generalisations and anticipations in the last two chapters.
I hope very shortly to send you a very small book I am bringing out on the Depression of Trade under the title of "Bad Times". I have endeavoured — I hope successfully — [2] to throw a little of the light of common sense and sound principles into the jungle of conflicting opinions and theories on this important subject.
Believe me |Yours very faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
