Prof.[essor] James Geikie

My dear Sir

Many thanks for your interesting & instructive letter which really contains all I want, which is, to see whether my critic, who writes very confidently & not too politely, is himself so he trusted as a guide. I enclose MSS of a footnote which I propose adding at the end of my articles, if you will allow me to quote your words. Even if I read [2] the books you kindly offer to lend me I could not get at the results you give me without much labour & study which I can hardly fuse to the question now. Please make any verbal alterations you think needful & return me the MSS.

I hope that there is a chance of Prof.[essor] Penck’s great work- Morphologie der Erdoberfläche— being translated into English, as I much want to read his treatment of the fundamental problems [3] of the great earth-movements & their causes. Mr. T.C.Chamberlin’s criticism of Lord Kelonis address on life of the Earth is very suggestive and his deductions from the meteoritic theory of the earth’s region seem to me very probably.

Believe me | Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
