In yours of May 14th last year, acknowledging return of some letter I had written to Bates, you said I might probably have them again to copy.
As I have now some leisure I should be very glad to have them if they are still in your charge or if you can obtain them. Those I particularly wish to see are of2 [2] the following dates: -
Dec. 28. 1845
April 11. 1866
Oct. 1867
Jan. 4. 1858
Dec. 10. 1861
Dec. 24. 1860
As these cannot be of any use or interest to Mr. Bates, now that you have made what use of them you could, perhaps he would let me keep them. [3] If not however I shall be very glad to have them to copy.
