Dear Dr Wallace
I have thought it only fair to send you what Revd Chambers2 says in support & defence of Spiritualism — saying that you seemed to think in your last note that he had not done justice to it — the reason I believe why he writes so much upon the Bible & Testament is — that he wishes to widen the minds of [2] Religious people — to show them that by a few mistranslations — the purpose of the Deity has been veiled — & since the third century — a great wrong has been done to God — & to the Christian Religion — & therefore he tries in his various books — to appeal to thoughtful people — to look & see how striking are the promises in the Testament of what the various ages to come are [3] to bring in the restoration to all humanity — not only restoration — but perfecting in the grand glory of eons — I really think if you will take the trouble to look through this book that you will agree that Chambers has shown some courage in attacking the Athanasian Creed used in the churches — & coming across a Bishop who at first attacked him about it — & had to draw in latterly about it.
I wonder if you can [4] go quite the length that Chambers does in support of what he calls Materialization of spirits — he declares on page 22 — that he has seen them — it really seems to me too marvelous.
I wrote to W Ryder & Son but they said in reply that they could not get the Dr Croll’s3 book — without knowing the name of the publisher so I suppose I must give it up.
with kind regards to Mrs Wallace3 & yourself | I am yours sincerely | SY Rice [signature]
