Theo D. A. Cockerell Esq.
My dear Sir
As you no doubt meet many of our rising naturalists and fellows of the Zool.[ogical] Linn.[ean] & Roy.[al] Societies you might consult them as to whether they think such a work as you suggest could be undertaken or would be supported. If half a dozen workers could be forced to undertake the work of collection I should think the [2] Roy.[al] Soc.[iety] Would give funds for the publication, as the work would be really a Supplement to Darwin’s Works, & might be suggested as a literary memorial to him. I doubt if a circular will do any good until a working committee is formed.
Believe me | Yours very faithfully | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
