My dear Wallace
You may recollect that some twelvemonths ago you wrote to tell me that you would like a Curatorship1 "no objection to Town or Country" and I have not forgotten your wishes — [2] I have to make an inquiry bearing upon them which you must be pleased to regard as private & not officially authorized; but which it may be worth your while to answer if you care for the thing.
Suppose a grand new [3] Museum built at Manchester — and a Curator appointed at £500 a year — Would you take the post if it were offered you? And, under such circumstances, would you be disposed to carry out the intention expressed in your letter with respect to your own collections?
[4] Let me have a reply before Wednesday.
& believe me | Yours Ever | T. H. Huxley [signature]
