Dear Mr. Meldola
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of a cheque for five guineas from the E.F & C. of E. N. F.C.!1 and to thank you & the Committee for the same.
My letter to the "Daily News" proposing a partial application of my views on the Nationalisation of the Land to Ireland, appeared yesterday. I send you a cutting in case you have not seen it, & you can give it to any one interested. The Editor has cut out some rather important passages.
I am glad to see Nelson gets it rather hot in the D[aily] News this morning. He got £500 a year added to his salary & a bonus of £2000 or £3000 expressly for his services [2] in the Epping Forest business!
Auberon Herbert’s letter on the Transvaal is admirable. I think advanced liberals should petition on the subject. It is simply abominable that we should at the present day actually take away the freedom from a people of European race who claim & defend it & have always done so.
Yours faithfully| Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
