Frith Hill, Godalming

Feby. 27th. [1883]1

My dear. Mr. Meldola

I enclose you tickets for 4th. & 11th. March & 4 others —

I think, myself, your deputation was strength wasted on Sir J[ohn] Lubbock. Why not go direct to the Home Secretary? Boulger’s[?] letter in the "Daily News" was very good & properly strong. I think you sh[oul]d appeal to the Government to veto this bill as directly opposed to an Act of Parliament carefully [2] considered and worded to protect the right of the whole people of England in Epping Forest, and the residents, or the Londoners, City, who are alone represented by the Corporation & Verderers. In the name of the public, & especially of all those interested in Nat[ural] Hist[ory] (who were especially contemplated in the original bill) any infringement of it sh[oul]d be protected against.

Yours faithfully| Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

A later hand has added the year 1883.
