Godalming,

Octr. 5th. 1887

My dear Meldola

The enclosed ticket has been sent me by Hampden. You will see that the Dialectical Soc[iety] are allowing him to expose his ignorance & absurdities. There will no doubt be some fun & he says he is going to abuse me. Will you go & let me know what happens. If opposed he will abuse you all, as knaves[,] [2] impostors and fools.

Thanks for your kind offer of a bed. I will accept it when needed. I am busy with arrears of correspondence & reading, & with great alterations in house & garden, and have also just now to prepare a new Edition of my "Australasia" for Stanford involving a good deal of work. My eyes are still weak & subject to inflammation otherwise I enjoyed excellent [3] health in America & had generally a "good time" of it.

Believe me| Yours very faithfully| Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
