Dear McLachlan
My Cousin Mr. C. A. Wilson, (Kensington, Adelaide S[outh] Australia) has written to me to get him specimens of the Phylloxera vastatrix and the allied species. They have an act empowering all infected vines &c. to be employ destroyed, but some mistakes have been made as to the insect. He is now appointed one of the Inspectors. Have you any specimens or have you any correspondents [2] who would supply them? If so they had better be sent direct to Mr Wilson. He is an old Entomologist & would gladly return equivalent specimens of any kind from S[outh] Australia.
Hoping you may be able to help him
I remain| Yours faithfully| Alfred R. Wallace [signature]
