My dear Annie

I am staying here a few days with Mr. Allan (whom lived in Washington) and who lives in a comfortable roomy old house in fine wooded grounds of 14 acres quite out of the city. I believe I shall sail from Montreal next Wednesday; August 10^th, and expect to reach Liverpool on the 18^th. or 19^th. as this is the fastest Canadian vessel. I am afraid I have missed one of your letters which was sent by John to the Post Office at Truckee in California, but which I quite forgot to call for when passing through. I may get it before I leave here, but am not sure. I therefore do not know where you all are or what you are doing. If the house is not let beyond the two months (which you told me expired on August 22^nd.) I had better come home on that day or the next, but if it is let for longer, and you are not fixed anywhere else for the holidays I thought you might like to join me & visit [2] the Lake District, where we have non of us ever been, for a week or two. If so perhaps it would be better for me to leave my baggage in Liverpool, & go on to secure lodgings in some nice part we may decide on, & then for you all to come straight there. You can probably find out a nice place good for scenery & for flowers &c. & where lodgings are likely to be had, from Mr. Benson[?], and send me the information in a letter addressed for me at Lawrence’s Temperance Hotel, Clayton Square, Liverpool — where I shall go on landing. If your father likes to join us he can come with you & you can call take tourist tickets to the place which I can telegraph to you. If you would like any other arrangement such as going to Derbyshire or Wales, write to me and I will come anywhere you fix upon. I wrote to you, through Hurst[?], last Sunday which, however, you may get before this. I have been [3] so moving about since leaving California & owing to having had several applications about lectures on Spiritualism have been so uncertain where I should be at any given time, that I could not tell you where to write. If you have written to Williams at Boston I shall get your letters at Montreal next Monday, (or perhaps Sunday) but can not send you another letter which will reach England before I shall myself.

I am going to the "Thousand Islands" now so must conclude.
