9, St. Mark's Crescent | Regent's Park. N.W.1

Dec[embe]r. 15th. 1868.

My dear Sir

I shall be happy to accept the office of Examiner which the Council of the Royal Geographical Society have done me the honour to offer me.2

Of course it is the Physical Geog[raphy]. papers that I shall undertake.

I am sorry that a dinner arrangement on Friday prevents me from accepting your kind invitation, [2] but I shall be happy to meet you any other day you like to name.

I remain Dear Sir | Very truly yours | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

Francis Galton Esq[uire].

ARW's residence from March 1865-6/20 July 1867 and early July 1868-22 March 1870.

2.

ARW served as Examiner in Physical Geography for the Royal Geographical Society's annual school geography competitions in 1869 and 1870 (see [1876]. Synopsis of Results of Past Examinations. Proceedings of the Royal Geographical Society of London. 20: 514-515). However, it appears that ARW mistakenly listed 1870 and 1871 as the years in his autobiography (Wallace, A. R. 1905. My Life: A Record of Events and Opinions, 2 vols. London, UK: Chapman & Hall, Ltd. [Vol. 2, p. 406]).
