Dear Mr Slater

I am very sorry that the lost journals cannot be found. As a last resort I am writing to Sir Clement Markham2 to ask if he knows anything of them. If not I will see if Macmillan will arrange for the materials we have to be published, on any reasonable terms. I will let you know the result.

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

P.S. You sent me a list of Species' letters from his various correspondents.

"20" has been written, it appears to be by the author.
