Mr. Alfred R. Wallace,

Old Orchard, Broadstone,

Wimborne, Dorset, England,

My Dear Sir:—

Noticing that you have just passed your ninetieth birthday, I beg with all respect and veneration the privilege of offering my congratulations.

As one who has had to deal with the history of biology in the nineteenth century, your early work has long been somewhat familiar to me, and the disinterested quality of it then and later has impressed me.

Not soliciting any reply whatever, I merely offer, from this somewhat remote part of the world, a tribute of deep respect, and an expression of gratitude that your life has been prolonged to the present time.

Very sincerely yours | J. M. Aldrich [signature] | Professor of Biology
