My dear Mr. Salt,

I am very glad to hear that you are going to publish a pamphlet on the Game Laws1. I fear however that I cannot undertake the responsibility of writing a Preface. I find I can now do very little writing having so much correspondence & other matters to attend to, and I have a book on hand which I particularly want to get on with2. If the [2] paper is well written it is sure to attract attention, but it will want a good deal of "pegging away" before we shall get rid of those abominable engines of oppression & selfishness.
