Feby. 22nd. 1913

Old Orchard,

Broadstone,

Dorset.

Arthur G. Symonds Esq.

Dear Sir

I return you the Memorial signed. I greatly regret however that it is not more thorough. The first sentence of Clause 1 should end at the word "cease". Then—"Constantinople shall be a free city governed by a Council of it inhabitants under a Governor or President approved by the Great Powers" (Preferably one [2] American chosen by the President of the U.S.A.) The Dardanelles & Bosphorous to be free to all nations and unfortified.

Why leave Constantinople to be a centre for Turkish intrigue & possible future disturbance & massacres?

Yours very truly | Alfred R. Wallace [signature]

P.S. I suggest that the Professors of History in all our Colleges & Universities, & the Chairmen of all our [3] Chambers of Commerce should be asked to sign, as being most likely to influence the Government.
