Dear Mr. Wallace,

I have found what I think was an error in your father's life. In most editions he speaks of his brother William's death in February1846; but the paper you gave me said 1845.

If he left at Leicester of Easter 1846 he would have been two years there; but in the longer life (vol I p. 240) he speaks of "my year spent at Leicester". He realised this in the shorter life and days (p.130) "my two years"; and [I?] think it was one year and that he was misled by the year 1846 for he had given his brother's death. What he says of his brother John joining him afterwards is also inconsistent with yr 1846; for he says John joined him in [2] January which was in 1847; whereas the context shows it was 1846 when they began engineering & surveying &c. together in Neath.

But Ithink it is safe safer to write to you about it.

On p. 121. of the shorter life, the "middle of December" is I presume 1843 and not 1844 (this I think is containing & word on p. 115) I cannot find the date at which he first entered the Leicester school, but I think it must have been in about February 1844.

With kind regards hoping that you are all well, | I am yours I E.B Poulton [signature]
