3 December [190]2
Dear Sir
We thank you for your letter of the 2. inst[ance].
We calculate that your book will make about 500 pages of 300 words each. We can use the same or a similar type to be first edition, but we do not propose to use any of the stereotype plates of the first edition. We retain Chap[te]r I to XI and will send them to press at once. Chap[te]r. XII to end we retain for your final revision.
Yours truly | [illeg. signature]
Dr. Alfred R. Wallace
